This year’s Camp Flog Gnaw music festival was full of surprises, including the reveal and announcement of the late Mac Miller’s posthumous album, Balloonism.
Officially released on January 17, 2025, two days before Miller’s 33rd birthday, the project was said to have been recorded in the wake of his film’s release. Face mixtape in 2014.
Miller’s management agency released a statement accompanying the announcement, sharing: “Due to unofficial versions of the album that have been circulating online for many years and the release Balloonism is something Malcom has frequently expressed is important to him, we felt it was most appropriate to introduce the official version of the project to the world.”
His team also noted that the project will most likely detail his mental and emotional state at the time.
“He commissioned the artwork for it and discussions about when it would be released were frequent, although in the end GOOD and subsequent albums ultimately took priority,” the statement read. “We believe the project demonstrates both his extensive musical talent and his courage as an artist.”
Fans are celebrating this bittersweet surprise, confident that the move will eventually be approved by Miller. “Mac Miller’s family are really the only people I trust to make a posthumous album,” one fan shared. “I know balloonism will be handled surprisingly well, especially after the way they handled it Circle.”

Miller lost his life from a fatal drug overdose on September 7, 2018, at the age of 26. This will be Miller’s second and sixth studio albums.
