Here’s Why Kelly Osbourne Regrets Giving Up Her Music Career

Kelly Osbourne can’t help but wonder what her life would be like if she gave up her music career.

Reflecting on her decision to stop making music, Kelly shared her candid thoughts on her family’s podcast, The Osbourne Family.

“I definitely thought about it. [getting back into music]”,” Kelly said after Jack Osbourne asked her if she had thought about returning to the game. “I definitely think about what my life would be like if I hadn’t stopped. That’s definitely a regret. Do I do anything about that regret? I don’t know.”

When asked why Kelly decided to quit music, Kelly’s parents – music executive Sharon Osbourne and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Ozzy Osbourne – had different opinions. For Sharon, it was because she was a “rebel”, but for Ozzy, it was “drugs”.

But Kelly’s answer was different.

“I was doing a lot of TV. I was touring a lot, and doing a lot of promotions, and doing a lot of interviews, and I wanted to go out and have fun,” Kelly explains. “I didn’t want to be all work and no play, and I didn’t know how to balance and have balance in my life.”

According to her, her mental state at the time was “bad”, but it successfully masked many of her insecurities.

Plus, it also covered “a lot of criticism, comparisons, and just talking crap about drugs, so I was numbing myself with it. So it goes hand in hand with that, with me, and I had to choose myself over all of that.”

In addition to the pressure of having Ozzy as a father and the growing expectations behind her, Kelly also revealed in another podcast episode that she has received negative comments about her body from people in the industry.

In an episode of The Osbourne FamilyKelly told her family about the abuse she received from an industry executive. According to Kelly, she was told she was “too fat as a child” and that she needed to lose weight to be successful.

“I had just booked a movie with Lindsay Lohan, Freaky Friday. I was going to play her best friend, and then right before my mom got diagnosed with cancer, I dropped out,” Kelly recalls. “And he just said, ‘You’re not a movie star, but you could be one if you lost weight.'”

Kelly has released two full-length studio albums in the past: Shut in 2002 and Sleep in the void in 2005. Since then, the singer has stopped releasing new music and focused full-time on acting and hosting.
