Early life

Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán was born in Sinaloa, Mexico and grew up in a poor farming family.

His parents are Emilio Guzmán Bustillos and María Consuelo Loera Pérez.

It was reported that he suffered physical abuse from his father and also became involved in drug trafficking through his father, helping his father grow marijuana for local drug dealers as a teenager.

As a child, he sold oranges and dropped out of school in the third grade to join his father in the drug trade.
