Lee Grinner Pace was born on March 25, 1979, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, United States.

He was raised by his parents – his mother, Charlotte Pace, was a teacher, and his father, James Roy Pace, was an engineer. Pace had a brother named William James Pace and a sister named Sally Pace.

Pace attended Crane High School in Spring, Texas (a suburb of Houston), where he studied with actor Matt Bomer.

During high school, Pace took a brief break from acting to perform at the Alley Theatre in Houston before returning to graduate school.
