Liam Payne’s funeral will take place on Wednesday

LONDON: The funeral of former One Direction star Liam Payne, who died last month after falling from a hotel room balcony in Buenos Aires, is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, British media reported.

Payne, who rose to global fame with boy band One Direction, has died at the age of 31, leaving fans around the world in mourning and raising questions about how he fell. Three people have been charged in connection with his death.

Payne’s body was handed over to his father earlier this month and flown back to his native England.

Several newspapers, including the Daily Mail and Daily Mirror, reported that all four of Payne’s former One Direction band members, including Harry Styles and Zayn Malik, would attend the funeral to pay their respects.

According to media reports, Liam Payne’s funeral will be a private ceremony for family and close friends.

A 911 call from a hotel employee on the day of Payne’s death warned that he had been acting aggressively and may have been under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

An autopsy revealed that the former boy band member had traces of alcohol, cocaine and prescription antidepressants in his system when he died.
