After not receiving a seat in The Voice season 22 auditions, Manasseh Samone returned to the competition the following year with Andra Day’s “Rise Up.” Judge Chance was entranced then immediately turned his chair around. “These people are crazy,” the rapper said. “They’re not coming back! This is the biggest blessing of the program up to now. I can’t believe I have you like that!”
Judge Kelly, who did not turn her chair around, later praised Manasseh’s performance as “incredible.” She also revealed that the only reason she didn’t come back was because Manasseh was “still fighting the tug of war between technique and passion.”
Nial agrees with Kelly.
As for Blake, he finally congratulated her. “It’s unbelievable,” he said. Couldn’t be happier for you. You made it to The Voice, so congratulations.”
Naturally, Manasseh then became a member of Team Chance.
Fast forward to the March 27 episode of the season, where she faced off against trio Sorelle on Adele’s “Someone Like You,” before Chance announced the show’s first Playoff Card.
“In my eyes, she outperforms the competition,” he explains. “She has the strongest voice, she has experience having been on this stage before and I think Manasseh absolutely deserves to skip to the next round.”
Excited, Manasseh later shared in an interview: “Making the playoffs was very rewarding. Everyone else has to fight and you can just sit back and watch.”
However, Manasseh may be the first to earn a playoff spot, but she is not the only one. Mary Kate Connor from Team Blake, Ryley Tate Wilson from Team Niall and D. Smooth from Team Kelly, also received newly introduced cards.
