Since Donald Trump won the election, the Internet has been flooded with disappointed celebrities and artists, including Selena Gomez.

On November 7, Gomez posted to her Instagram Stories a quote quoting feminist activist Audre Lorde. It is captioned: “I am not free while any woman is not free, even if her chains are very different from mine.”

Gomez also added, “My heart is heavy today,” expressing a feeling of defeat after Trump won against Kamala Harris in this year’s election.

Gomez has always been vocal in showing her support for Harris thanks to her posts on social media. On October 29, Gomez made sure to vote for Harris before attending the premiere of “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.”

According to photos posted online, the “Who Says” singer is said to be posing near a ballot box to indicate his vote. Furthermore, Gomez was also spotted liking Taylor Swift’s Instagram post supporting Harris.

Gomez and Harris also interacted in 2020, when the two chatted about the importance of voting and mental health.

“I think when I was younger, I wasn’t properly educated about the voting process,” Gomez said. “These past four years, I’ve been through a lot and I feel like my vote counts more than ever.”

She continued, “As a citizen, as someone who truly cares about their country, not voting is just an option.”
