Shania Twain reveals the traumatic encounter that inspired her to write ‘Man! I feel like a woman!’

Shania Twain shared what inspired her to write her hit anthem, “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!”

Speaking to The Times, the Canadian superstar shared that as a child, she was sexually assaulted by her stepfather, who also physically abused her mother.

According to her, “Man! I feel like a woman!” is that she “said I had waited too long to feel satisfied being a woman” after experiencing such a traumatic encounter.

“For years I avoided it or wished I wasn’t a woman. I was a shy, insecure woman – not human,” Twain recalled of the song’s impact on her life .

At the time, Twain admitted to being insecure about her curves and body, which she struggled to overcome so as not to draw attention to them.

“I knew guys would take advantage of me one way or another,” Twain added, recalling how she felt she had missed out on girlhood because of her stepfather’s abuse.

Ultimately, Twain felt empowered and she then decided to write an anthem for the now iconic woman.

“I got tired of acting like I wasn’t a woman with curves, so I wrote The Man! I Feel Like a Woman! I Guess I Was Too Late in It” “It’s important to feel comfortable in your own skin, but after a while, you just stop picking at the things you can’t change,” Twain confirms.

Since then, Twain has embraced her inner femininity and body, and she has made significant changes in her style over the past few years.

At the 2023 Grammy Awards, Twain changed her usual brown hair to fiery red hair.

In an interview with InStyle Magazine, Twain spoke candidly about her confident change to her “Shania-ssance.”

“I’m ready for it. I’m a lot braver than I was. Years ago, I would have been more careful about, ‘Is this too much?'” Twain confessed. “I’m more adventurous now and I’m excited about what’s new and what I can experiment with. I just love fashion for that. Just when you think there’s nothing left to create, someone will create something new. I’m inspired by that. When you can transform a person’s life just by putting something on, it’s breathtaking.”
