The real reason why Prince refused to have a star on the Walk of Fame before his death was revealed

Prince was twice offered a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame during his lifetime, but he turned down both opportunities.

On Tuesday, June 25, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced the list of 2025 Hollywood Walk of Fame inductees. The late “Play in the Sunshine” singer is among those received the award, alongside Keith Urban, Jane Fonda, David Beckham and many others.

“The Walk of Fame has made history again! As Chairman of the Walk of Fame Selection Committee, I am pleased to announce the outstanding honorees who will grace the iconic Walk of Fame. icon in the Class of 2025. Each honoree truly embodies excellence in their respective fields,” Peter Roth said in a statement. “The committee and I can’t wait to see our honorees become part of this world-famous walkway!”

Before his death, Prince was offered this star but refused it twice.

The “When Doves Cry” singer’s name appeared on the nomination list in the 1990s and around 2014 or 2015.

Hall of Fame ceremony producer Ana Martinez told The Wrap, “He was on my wish list. But he felt that it wasn’t the right time.”

However, Prince could not mentally prepare to receive the honor when he passed away on April 21, 2016.

However, the Walk of Fame may award a star five years after the artist’s death. As for Prince, he would get his stardom eight years after his death.

While an official date for Prince’s inauguration has not yet been set, Martinez clarified that Prince’s family and estate have two years to schedule the ceremony before the offer expires.

Prince died at the age of 57. He was found alone and unresponsive in an elevator at his Paisley Park studio, his representative told Los Angeles television station KTLA.

Carver County District Attorney Mark Metz said at a news conference in Chaska that Prince died after taking painkillers containing fentanyl. Authorities claim he thought the drug was Vicodin, and Prince eventually died after accidentally overdosing.
