American actress and TV host Melissa Rivers is engaged, PEOPLE reported in November 2023.
Sources claim that Joan Rivers’ late daughter showed off a massive 5.6-carat diamond ring over the weekend at BravoCon. Sources claim Melissa said “yes” to her partner of 1.5 years, Steve Mitchel, last month on a beach in Mexico. While the two were vacationing at the One & Only Mandarina Resort in Mexico, Steve proposed to his fiancée with a beautiful, designer sparkler designed by Melissa’s best friend Peter McNeal at McNeal and Grunberg.
According to their accounts, Steve and Melissa allegedly met at a mental health seminar held at Didi Hirsch Mental Health and Suicide Prevention. “I am co-chairman of the board of directors. He was there as a friend,” the future bride confirmed to PEOPLE. “Rarely does a complete stranger come up to me and start talking. We’ve been together for about a year and a half now.”
“He had the courage to go and talk to her,” a source revealed to PageSix, “and the rest is history.”
They also added, “[Mitchel] can’t be removed from the world of Hollywood anymore, it’s perfect for her.”
“It was a huge step for both of us and I’m still completely shocked, even a month later, but beyond happy,” Melissa told PEOPLE exclusively. “And more importantly, my mother would definitely approve of the ring. Oh yeah, and Steve too!”
Melissa, who was previously married to John Endicott for five years until their split in 2003, had a change of heart after years of vowing that she would never walk down the aisle again.
“All my friends joked that I ran pretty well and almost made it to the finish line and was single for the rest of my life. It was something that I never in my heart of hearts believed I would do. But, apparently, hell freezes over and pigs fly,” Melissa jokingly explained, adding to PEOPLE, “I didn’t see it coming and it wasn’t really easy to pull my fast. When Steve stuck some smelling salts in my nose to keep me from passing out, I agreed.”
Melissa also confirmed that she and Steve are in no rush to walk down the aisle and enjoy the best day of their lives. “We are taking small steps. We haven’t planned anything yet. If we were to have a ceremony and party, I can’t imagine it happening before 2025. I can guarantee it won’t be like my first wedding or anything on that level ”.
In addition, Melissa’s son Cooper Endicott also agreed to her engagement and their relationship after Steve called Cooper.

The son of George Mitchel and Susan Mitchel, Steve Mitchel was one of four children born to his parents. His mother Susan was born on January 9, 1933 in Los Angeles. His parents met on a blind date in 1956 and they married on April 27, 1957. Inseparable for 64 years, they raised a large and close-knit family. Family is where she truly shines and builds her family foundation.
An important aspect of Susan’s life was her love of the outdoors, sports and adventure. Her early years were spent in Lausanne, Switzerland, where she developed a lifelong passion for skiing. She loved skiing and passed this love on to her children and grandchildren.
As PTA President at 3rd Street School, Susan worked hard to make everyone’s experience a strong foundation upon which to base their lives, and was renowned for bringing the school to campus school by helicopter, as recorded on the front page of the Larchmont Chronicle.
Sadly, Susan passed away on March 2, 2021 after a long struggle with dementia. She is survived by her husband George and three other children, Clay Mitchel (Staci), Margaret Cook (Bill) and Charlotte Roach (Brent).
