Download Festival disaster: More than 500 fans reported with food poisoning; Investigation underway

Download Festival is supposed to be a lot of fun as concertgoers gather in one location to watch their favorite music acts perform live on stage. However, disaster struck due to bad weather and a reported case of food poisoning that left hundreds of fans suffering.

According to Consequence, the event takes place from June 13 to 15, 2024, at Donington Park. Some of the epic performers include Fall Out Boy, Avenged Sevenfold, Queens of the Stone Age, etc.

However, Food Poisoning News reported that more than 500 people suffered symptoms of diarrhea, nausea, stomach cramps and fever. The illness was so severe that other festival-goers chose to use buckets as toilets.

Fans aren’t the only ones suffering from food poisoning. Raiders tight end Sean Smith took to social media to share that he too was feeling sick.

“Had food poisoning. Sick all night,” he wrote, adding that he needed to be hospitalized and given IV fluids to recover.

The Leicester Mercury reported that two vendors at the event were closed due to health code violations, but it was unclear which food item caused the food poisoning.

The BBC confirmed that an investigation is currently underway.

Paramedic Paul Sanders said in a statement: “We have worked with the event organizer to investigate two food vendors, both of whom were closed by the event organizer over the weekend via”. .

He added that they “will continue to investigate. Anyone who continues to feel unwell after Download Festival should contact their doctor first.”

A Live Nation spokesperson issued a statement regarding the matter and confirmed that two food vendors were indeed closed and removed from the premises for not meeting local government standards. .

They added, “Download Festival operates a robust 24-hour welfare operation, including staff and welfare tents to support unwell customers across the site.”

In addition to food poisoning, countless fans also suffered from bad weather. It rained for most of the festival, resulting in a muddy venue.

As of this writing, it is unclear whether police will be involved or whether there will be any legal consequences for the parties involved.

In other updates, Download Festival have just announced that they will have a 2025 edition and early bird tickets are now available on their official website.
