Former PDP spokesman says Peter Obi eyes SDP move with El-Rufai amid turmoil in Labor Party

Former spokesperson of the Atiku Abubakar/Ifeanyi Okowa Presidential Campaign Organisation, Daniel Bwala, has sparked controversy with his claim that the former Anambra State Governor and Labor Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, is strategizing his exit from the 2023 election. Labor Party amid internal strife and joining forces with former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai in the Social Democratic Party (SDP ).

Bwala took control of his X on Friday to reveal these allegations, suggesting that the possibility of Obi leaving Labor party originating from the ongoing crisis within the party, exacerbated by Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC) threatened to take control.

Peter Obi, who switched allegiance from People’s Democratic Party (PDP) arrives Labor party in May 2023 ahead of the general election, is said to be contemplating a switch to the SDP in light of his current political turmoil.

In his social media post, Bwala speculated about the political dynamics at play, hinting at the possibility of cooperation between Obi and El-Rufai under the banner of the SDP. He referred to the legal judgment affirming NLC’s ownership of the Labor partysignaled the upcoming involvement of labor unions in party affairs.

The story of political realignment gained traction when El-Rufai was recently spotted at the SDP national secretariat in Abuja, sparking speculations about his possible entry into the party. A viral video captured El-Rufai’s consultative visit with the SDP’s national chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, in which the former governor dismissed concerns about photos of the meeting circulating on social media festival.

It is worth noting that El-Rufai’s ministerial nomination was not confirmed by Nigerian Senate President Godswill Akpabio last August, along with nominees such as Senators Abubakar Sani Danladi and Stella Okotete, due to unresolved security concerns.
