Akindele-Bello Olufunke Ayotunde (born 24 August 1977), popularly known as Funke Akindele or Jenifa, is a talented Nigerian actress, businesswoman and film producer.

She starred in the sitcom I Need to Know from 1998 to 2002, and in 2009 she won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress.

She became famous for her role in the movie titled Jenifa, which earned her the nickname Jenifa. The Omo Ghetto trilogy contributed to her fame.

Funke Akindele starred in the show Jenifa’s Diary, for which she was named Best Actress in a Comedy at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.

Early Life & Education

Funke Akindele was born on August 24, 1977 in Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria.

She is the second child in a family of three children (two girls and a boy). Her mother is a medical doctor, and her father is a retired school principal. She also has a sister named Abimbola Maria Akindele.

Funke Akindele studied at Grace Children’s School, Gbagada, Lagos State. She received her Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Mass Communication from the former Ogun State Polytechnic, now known as Moshood Abiola Polytechnic. She holds a Law degree from the University of Lagos.

Career

Funke Akindele came into the limelight after starring in the popular United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)-funded sitcom I Need to Know, from 1998 to 2002. She played the role of Bisi, a high school student. curious but excellent student. Funke Akindele’s big break came in 2008 when she appeared in the movie Jenifa.

In January 2018, controversy arose when TheCityCeleb reported that Funke Akindele would make her Hollywood debut in Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War as she was listed as a member of the cast on IMDb.

Nigeria’s mainstream press reports that Jenifa will star in Infinity War as the Dora Milaje protector, citing IMDb. A few weeks later, her name was replaced by that of Nigerian actress Genevieve Nnaji, with Funke Akindele’s upload being a hack.

In February 2018, TheCityCeleb reported that the Senate President and National Assembly president, Dr. Bukola Saraki, advised Marvel Studios to introduce Funke Akindele in Infinity War.

In July 2016, in an interview, Funke Akindele said she was less active in the Yoruba film industry because of copyright infringement.

Funke Akindele has three children, namely Tamira Bello, Benito Bello and Josiah Bello, who are her twins.
