‘Grateful’ SZA Wins Hal David Starlight Award at the 2024 Songwriters Hall of Fame

SZA has been reaping the fruits of her labor over the past few years and has received countless honors from major award-giving organizations. More recently, the musician received another award, and she was grateful for it and said it validated her.

According to People magazine, SOS The hitmaker was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame with the Hal David Starlight Award. This award recognizes her work as a songwriter, especially her skill in writing her own songs.

“I exceeded all of my wildest dreams… I am so grateful… Thank you for meeting me,” she said after Nile Rodgers presented her with the award.

SZA further noted that winning the award meant a lot to her, especially since she is a Black woman. After her speech, she took the stage to perform an acoustic rendition of her hit single, “Snooze.”

“Broken Clocks” has consistently received awards over the past few years, especially after the release of her latest album, SOS.

The album won a Grammy Award, a Billboard Music Award, a Brit Award, and an iHeartRadio Music Award.

SZA is not the first Hal David Starlight awardee as the category has previously honored famous musicians such as Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Post Malone and Lil Nas X.

The event took place at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York and featured other artists such as Donald Fagen and Walter Becker of Steely Dan, Mike Mills and Michael Stipe of REM, Timbaland, etc.

In other singer news, she’ll be appearing at several festivals over the next few months, including Summerfest on June 22, BST Hyde Park in London on June 29, Lollapalooza Chicago on June 2 August and Osheaga Music and Arts Festival 2024 in Montreal, QC.

As for new music, fans are waiting for SZA to release a deluxe edition of SOS, that would be a separate LP is called Lana.

It was supposed to come out early this year, but after it was leaked to the public, the singer announced that the release date had to be postponed.

At the time of writing, she has yet to reveal when she will drop the highly anticipated record, but she did release a new song titled “Saturn” from the album.
