James Morrison’s wife left behind a heartbreaking six-word letter before being found dead

Following the death of James Morrison’s estranged wife, an inquest was held at the Coroner’s Court in Gloucestershire almost half a year after the incident.

The 39-year-old “Broken Strings” crooner mourned the loss of his wife Gill Catchpole in early January when he discovered her lifeless body at their residence in Gloucestershire, UK, on January 5.

The news came to light after a worried friend noticed a note pinned to the entrance of their home shortly after their split, which was revealed in a recent investigation, according to Manchester Evening News.

The handwritten note allegedly read: “Do not enter, call the police.”

When warned by a worried friend, Morrison went to the neighborhood where he lived. Using the keys, he entered the house and discovered the lifeless body of his ex-partner.

Emergency services were promptly summoned and Catchpole was officially declared dead.

After a thorough investigation, Detective Sergeant David Kania concluded that there was no third party involvement in the untimely death.

He said, “One of the deceased’s acquaintances happened to find an A4 piece of paper with the alarming words, ‘Do not enter. Instead, notify the authorities… the officer stated in an official statement.”

“The friend went to the house and rescued his ex-partner, he found the keys to the outhouse, they entered and found the deceased. When I entered the living room, I saw a series of handwritten notes on the living table, addressed to the deceased’s ex-partner, family and friends.”

“There are no signs of disturbance or third party involvement. I am aware that close friends and family have indicated that [Catchpole] has been suffering from mental health problems for the past year or so and since breaking up with his ex-partner. It is likely that this had a further negative adverse impact on her mental health, leading her to take actions that led to her untimely death.”

According to The Guardian, after an analysis conducted after the death, it was also revealed that the main cause of death was determined to be the suspension of the lanyard. Subsequent toxicology tests revealed a remarkable alcohol level of 190mg per 100ml of blood, well above the legal limit for driving under the influence of 80mg per 100ml of blood.

From information presented in court, it was revealed that Catchpole had struggled with kidney disease starting in 2008, leading to a later kidney transplant.

Dr. Emma Basker emphasized in a written statement that in addition to battling kidney problems, Catchpole also struggled with persistent mental health challenges such as anxiety and PTSD. Treatment plans include medication, counseling, and psychotherapy to address these issues.

Coroner Roland Wooderson has officially recorded a conclusion of suicide in the Gloucestershire area.

“It’s quite clear to me that, sadly, at the right time, [Catchpole] is in a difficult place mentally. I am absolutely clear that the content of those notes indicates that [Catchpole] Unfortunately she was in a very difficult place at the time of her death.”
