Kanye West, Ty Dolla $ign settle Donna’s ‘Vulture 1’ summer AI lawsuit: Report

In a February 2024 complaint, West and Dolla $ign initially requested permission to use portions of “I Feel Love” in their song “Good (Don’t Die),” but were explicitly denied.

Despite being rejected, the two continued to use the song, at least the lyrics. They have a female voice singing the lyrics which are changed from the melody of the song.

Bruce Sudano, Donna Summer’s husband, publicly denounced West and Dolla$ign’s unauthorized use of the song.

“@kanyewest asked permission to use Donna Summer’s song I Feel Love, he was denied… he changed the lyrics, asked someone to sing it again or used AI but it was I Feel Love… en copyright infringement!!!” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter. The song was deleted (and returned and deleted again) across social media platforms.

According to the lawsuit, Donna Summer’s estate denied Kanye West’s request because of his “controversial history.”

West sought copyright through an organization called Alien Music. Summer’s estate denied the request but he persisted in asking Universal Music Enterprises but was still denied use.

In addition to Summer, West and Dolla $ign were also accused of infringing on one of Ozzy Osbourne’s songs.

Like Summer, Osbourne denied West permission to use the song due to his troubled past, particularly his anti-Semitic stance.
