Kelly Clarkson’s ‘Lavender Haze’ Cover Divides Swifties: ‘This Isn’t Even Close’

Kelly Clarkson has always been a huge fan of Taylor Swift and she honored the singer with a cover of Swift’s “Lavender Haze”.

The cover took place on November 26 during the Kellyoke segment on her talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show.

Wearing a yellow shirt and patterned skirt, the star effortlessly belts out Swift’s high notes in the chorus, singing “I feel the lavender mist creeping in on me / Surreal, I’m fucked If I care what people say / No deal, 1950s— they want me / I just want to be in that lavender haze.”

However, not everyone is a fan of this cover and many people think this is a rare L for Clarkson.

“Honestly this is not a good song for her to Kelly Clarkson-ify,” wrote user X.

“This doesn’t even surpass the initial apology,” said another.

Another person shared: “This proves that no one can sing Taylor’s songs better than her even if it’s a cover queen lmfao.”

Another added: “Having a good voice doesn’t make a good cover.”

Another X user said: “I can count on one hand every Taylor cover I’ve ever liked, not this one.”

Another wrote: “Stop lying, Taylor’s songs were written by Taylor for Taylor and sound better when sung by Taylor… I don’t need anyone shouting her poetry at me.”

“Lavender Haze” appears on Swift’s Billboard The 2022 Top 200’s number-one album, Midnights, and the song peaked at number 2 on the Hot 100 songs chart.

In the past, Clarkson has received praise from cover artists such as Jelly Roll and Celine Dion. In October, Clarkson covered Dion’s signature hit “My Heart Will Go On”, attracting the music legend’s attention.

“When I returned from the Olympics, I got to watch and listen to your reactions to my performance on the Eiffel Tower,” she said. It’s so sweet to hear you guys talk.”

“Your voice cracked and it touched me so much. You were crying and that made me start crying. Now, I just saw you sing ‘My Heart Will Go On’ and I’m crying again. You’re so beautiful Great. I love it so much. I hope we can meet soon. I love you so much,” Dion added.

Additionally, when Clarkson performed “Good Luck, Babe!” by Chappell Roan in September, she is considered by some to be “the best singer of this generation”.
