My Hero Academia: All about Izuku Midoriya and the cast

Izuku Midoriya, also known by his hero Deku, is the main character of the manga series My Hero Academia, created by Kōhei Horikoshi.

He is an ambitious first-year high school student and holder of the 9th superpower. “One for all,” combine eight different individual superpowers or “Weird.” Izuku possesses the unique ability to pass this power on to others.

Concept and creativity

Izuku Midoriya was originally conceived as Jack Midoriya, a sickly salaryman working for a superhero supply company in a 2008 one-shot manga called My Hero.

However, Horikoshi later changed the character to a high school student in My Hero Academia, keeping the core characteristics of the character intact.

The prototype for Izuku’s character was Mikumo Akatani, a dark-haired, Quirkless boy who would have to rely on gadgets to become a hero.

Horikoshi revised and perfected the character designs, eventually creating the main character, Izuku Midoriya.

Voice actor

In the anime adaptation, Izuku is voiced by Daiki Yamashita in Japanese and Justin Briner in English.
