Nicki Minaj ordered to appear in court after owning concert promoter $1 million: Report

Nicki Minaj has reportedly appeared in court after allegedly owing her concert promoter a whopping $1 million.

In Touch Weekly has obtained legal documents approving the application made by promoter BS Associates Company LTD, requiring the female rapper to appear for a financial audit.

Minaj was ordered to appear in court on August 15, 2024 so she can “provide information to assist in the enforcement of the money judgment against” her.

According to the documents, Minaj was ordered to appear in court to provide information about her assets.

The legal drama stems from a 2018 performance incident in Shanghai, China, where Minaj refused to perform on stage at the DWP China Music Festival after discovering it was a “scam.” Minaj and her team only discovered that the entire festival was unrelated to the original Indonesian festival of the same name on the day they arrived in the country.

BS Associates, Minaj’s partner at the time, agreed to pay $1 million to Pink Personal, Minaj’s company, for her performance. According to the lawsuit, the company had the money deposited into an escrow account by her talent agents at CAA.

The company claims that Minaj requested the release of $250,000 from the escrow account weeks before the 2018 performance, and they agreed. However, Minaj “did not appear”. The company claims Minaj’s agents discussed a rescheduled date if “additional funds” were released, so they released an additional $250,000.

However, despite further efforts to secure another date, Minaj never provided a new date for the show.

In arbitration, Radar Online reports that BS Associates was awarded the full $1 million with interest, bringing the total to $1.4 million. In 2023, the company filed a petition with a Los Angeles court to begin the process of collecting debt from Pink Personal.

Pink Personal did not respond to the petition, and documents show that CAA returned the $500,000 the company originally paid to Minaj. BS Associates then asked the court to amend the arbitration to reflect the payment, which would increase the amount from $1.4 million to $1.063 million today.

BS Associates asked the court to question Minaj’s representatives from William Morris Endeavor and her financial team.

Minaj is currently on a break from her historic Pink Friday 2 world tour. She is scheduled to return to tour on June 27, 2024, at Praia da Rocha in Portimão, Portugal.
