Peter Collins’ Cause of Death Revealed: Bon Jovi Record Producer Dies at 73

Peter Collins, widely known as a record producer who worked with some of the biggest musical acts in rock history, including Bon Jovi, Air Supply, Rush, Alex Cooper and many others, has died at the age of 73.

News of the musician’s death broke when Rush took to their official Instagram account to pay tribute to their late collaborator, writing in the caption: “Peter Collins was our beloved producer on four albums. We loved seeing him in Nashville when we were on tour. He had a mischievous, bright smile and a great sense of humor. We will miss him. Rest in peace, Big Brother.”

NME reports that the producer passed away at his home in Nashville, TN. He had previously been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Born January 14, 1951 in Reading, England, this record producer has worked in many jobs in the music industry, including as a composer and sound engineer.

He initially worked with a band called Madison, signed to Magnet Records. The group consisted of Sippy, Peter Spooner, and Cherri Gilham. Unfortunately, their album was not a huge success, leading to their breakup.

He then formed a production company with Pete Waterman, where he produced albums for The Lambrettas.

In a 2004 interview with Record Production Arts Magazine, he revealed that he was a singer-songwriter in the 1960s. When it came time to make an album, he realized that he was not interested in being an artist, but rather wanted to get into the studio and be involved in “the actual process of making a record”.

Collins moved to Canada to work with Rush. He produced four of the group’s albums, including Power windows in 1985, Keep your fire burning 1987, Partner in 1993, and Check the echo in 1996.

Before working with the band, he was known as a pop producer, so he refused to work on albums. Quickly And Bone rolling. However, he later took over this role and produced their rock albums.

He has worked with famous bands and musicians such as Bon Jovi, Lisa Loeb, Indigo Girls, Nanci Griffith, Alice Cooper and many more.

His last work to date is Stray Cats’ 40 in 2019.

After his death, many of his former collaborators took to social media to pay tribute to him. Mike Portnoy wrote on his Instagram account: “So sad to hear of the passing of legendary Producer Peter Collins… He was a great person to work with and gave us so many great memories and hilarious expressions and quotes that we still talk about to this day.”
