Early life
Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs was born into the family of Melvin Earl Combs and Janice Combs. He was born on November 4, 1969 in Harlem, New York City. He has a sister named Keisha Combs.
The Combs named their son Sean John Combs. His father was a military officer and served in the United States Air Force. His mother Janice is a teacher’s assistant and model. He spent his formative years residing in Mount Vernon, New York City.
When Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs was less than two years old when his father was shot and killed while he was sitting in the car. At that time Melvin Earl Combs was 33 years old. He was nicknamed “Puff” because when he was young, he used to “puff” when angry.
Education
Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs is an alumnus of Mount Saint Michael Academy. He graduated from this school in 1987. While still a student, he joined the school’s football team.
After leaving high school, he was accepted to study Business at Howard University. But he dropped out after two years.
Career
Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs began his music career with an internship at the Uptown Records office in New York in 1990. He later secured a full-time role for the organization and became Director of Talent. During his time as Chief Talent Officer, he was responsible for developing the careers of Mary J. Blige and Jodeci. He was fired from Uptown Records in 1993.
Instead of joining another record label, he decided to start his own record label and named it Bad Boy Entertainment. The label was a joint partner with Aristo Records and quickly signed his first artist, The Notorious BIG As the label grew, he signed more musical artists such as Carl Thomas, Faith Evans, Total, 112 and Father MC. He also has a top-notch in-house production team called The Hitmen.
In June 1997, Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs released his debut single, Can’t Who Hold Me Down, under the moniker Puff Daddy. The song reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent 28 weeks on the chart. He established himself as a rapper when he released his debut album No Way Out in 1997. The project sold 561,000 copies in its first week and has been certified seven times platinum by the RIAA. The album won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album in 1998, and received four other nominations.
His second album, Forever was released on August 24, 1999. The album peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 and number one on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums Chart. His third and fourth studio albums were The Saga Continues…, (2001) and Press Play (2006), respectively. He founded the music group Dirty Money in 2009. Dirty Money released its debut album, Last Train To Paris, in 2010.
Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs has won three Grammy Awards and two MTV Video Music Awards. He is credited as a producer on the MTV show, Making The Band. He founded his clothing line, Sean John in 1999. He won the 2004 Men’s Designer Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America.

Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs never married but he is the father of six children. His first child, Justin Combs, was born in 1993. Justin Combs’ mother is designer, Misa Hylton-Brim.
He is in an on-and-off romantic relationship with Kimberly Porter. Kimberly Porter is the mother of his son, King Combs (born 1998) and twin daughters D’Lila Star Combs and Jessie James Combs (born 2006). He also adopted Kimberly Porter’s son, Quincy (born 1991). Sadly, Kimberly Porter passed away in 2018 after a period of pneumonia.
