Yolanda Saldívar, the woman who killed Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, is now asking for a pardon.
New York Post Office reports that Saldívar is now seeking release in 2025, 30 years after she murdered Quintanilla-Pérez. News of her possible release was communicated to media outlets through a representative of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. They said there were no disciplinary violations on her record that would prevent her release.
After his release, Saldívar reportedly set his sights on working and living with relatives.
She is currently housed at the Patrick L. O’Daniel Unit in Gatesville, Texas, which houses the women of Death Row. She has been placed in protective custody for the time being.
“Everyone knows who Yolanda Saldívar is,” Marisol Lopez, who worked with her for five years, told New York Post Office.
“There’s a bounty on her head, like everyone wants a piece of her. The guards kept her away from the others, as she was very hated. If she goes out [in general population]someone will try to take her down,” she added.
Yesenia Dominguez, another inmate, had similar views and revealed that there were talks about Saldívar in the prison yard.
“Everyone always says, ‘Give me five minutes with that b—h. Everyone wants justice for Selena. There’s a target on her back,” she said.
This is not the first time information about a target being placed on Saldívar’s back has been revealed. In 2018, Selena’s father, Abraham Quintanilla, said there had been threats against his daughter’s killer.
“To this day, we still receive letters from women in the same prison where they say they are waiting for her. They say they will kill her. There are evil women in there. . The women killed other people in there.” past. That’s why they’re in there with nothing to lose,” he shared.
Saldívar maintained that she did not intend to kill Quintanilla-Pérez and that her death was an accident. Despite this, Saldívar was convicted of murdering the singer on March 31, 1995 after an argument broke out because Quintanilla-Pérez believed Saldívar had embezzled more than $60,000 from her fan club .
Saldívar is now 64 years old and Quintanilla-Pérez’s family will be notified of his parole hearing in January.
